The

Recording Academy

is likely to postpone the

Grammy Awards

for the second year in a row.

According to the latest reports, music's biggest night may just be rescheduled to a later date due to the spike in the omicron variant of COVID-19. While an official announcement is still awaited, the show is currently set for January 31 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

This would be the second consecutive year that the

Grammys

have been postponed the show owing to the pandemic. Last year’s show was set for a Jan. 31, 2021, airing, but was delayed to March 14 due to a spike in cases in Los Angeles.

At that time, the show was relocated from Staples Center (the former name of Crypto.com Arena) to the nearby Los Angeles Convention Center, which allowed for social distancing norms and less crowding.

Reports on Billboard state that the Recording Academy is known to prefer to host the show in an arena at full capacity as they get considerable ticket revenue. Scaling -back on the show would result in huge losses.

The report states that a Recording Academy spokesman has emphasized that no decision has yet been made and urged caution against rumours.

Trevor Noah, who hosted last year’s show, is set to return to host this year’s show.
