Album: Frozen OSTMusic: Christophe Beck/ Kristen-Anderson Lopez and Robert Lopez, Walt Disney Records Rating: 3.5 The swirling swathes of sound dished around the place by Beck as well as the solid tunes by the Lopez duo make this soundtrack easily one of the best to come out of the Disney stable in a while.
First, the songs. Frozen Heart has a strong vocal and a definitely ballsy attitude.
Do You Want to Build a Snowman? is in a narrative style with three sections. For the First Time In Forever has
Kristen Bell and
Idina Menzel doing a surprisingly good duet. With amusing lyrics and Menzel’s sonorous Broadway-style voice, it conveys exactly what it intends to, in terms of vibe. Love Is An Open Door is part pop and part bubblegum. It showcases the beauty of early love in a hummable format.
Let It Go is a power ballad that encourages you to let go of past hurts. This song contains many vocal parts. Reindeer(s) Are Better Than People is a bit disappointing and is thankfully brief. In Summer is part ragtime and part jazz. Vuelie (feat. Cantus) has a Nordic touch and gives the soundtrack some native spirit.
The score section contains plenty of pieces whose overall feel (you don’t really have to listen to each one) and mood match that of the movie. Some magic, some playfulness, a mix of musical styles and plenty of musical gymnastics.
