Chris Brown has launched a $500 million defamation lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery, Ample Entertainment, and others over the Investigation Discovery docuseries 'Chris Brown: A History of Violence.' The 35-year-old artist alleges that the series includes damaging and untrue claims about his character, particularly allegations of sexual misconduct, according to court documents.

In his lawsuit, Brown argues that the series falsely accuses him of raping a woman in 2020, despite evidence he refutes the claims. The complaint states that the woman, referred to as Jane Doe, has been discredited multiple times and previously withdrew her lawsuit against Brown.

Reports at the time of the series release in October 2024 confirmed that the woman’s $20 million lawsuit, filed in 2022, was dismissed. Miami Beach Police reportedly investigated her accusations and concluded there was no probable cause to charge the singer.

Despite this, Doe participated in the docuseries, sharing an on-camera account of her experience. Appearing in silhouette to protect her identity, she stated, “Chris Brown raped me. And I can say that, and I know it for a fact instead of telling myself that it wasn’t.” She also emphasized the importance of speaking out against sexual violence, adding, “Unless people start speaking up, then that’s the only way he can be stopped.”

Brown’s lawsuit takes issue with how the series portrays him, labeling him as a “serial rapist and sexual abuser.” The singer claims that the producers ignored evidence and focused on sensationalism to damage his reputation.

In court filings, Brown points out that he has never been convicted of any sex-related crime and has spent more than a decade working to rebuild his image following his 2009 assault conviction involving ex-girlfriend Rihanna. He accuses the documentary of dredging up his past mistakes and twisting them for profit, stating that the series perpetuates a damaging narrative all in the name of fame and fortune.

Brown is demanding $500 million in damages, asserting that the series has harmed his reputation, career, and business ventures. He also revealed plans to donate part of any awarded sum to survivors of sexual abuse.

A lawyer representing Brown previously described Doe’s claims as “entirely fabricated” and criticized the docuseries as “malicious and false.”

'Chris Brown: A History of Violence' aired on Investigation Discovery, a network owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, in October 2024. Brown and his legal team have accused the producers of defamation and ignoring facts in their pursuit of a provocative narrative.
