Amy Winehouse’s father Mitch has accused filmmakers of stitching him up in a documentary about the tragic singer’s life. He says the movie Amy, launched at the Cannes Film Festival, was selectively edited by filmmakers “trying to destroy him”. The film shares chats the Back To Black singer had with friends before her death from alcohol poisoning in 2011, aged 27.

Mitch, with a film crew in tow, appears in footage arguing with an upset Amy in St Lucia about her treatment of fans. Amy tells him, “Why have you done this to me? Are you only interested in what you can get out of me?” The new film claims Mitch, 64, and Amy’s manager Raye Cosbert, failed to stop her performing when she was ill so she wouldn’t lose million-pound deals. While Mitch admits he has made mistakes, when quizzed on it, he said, “Amy and her manager would have made that decision. I wouldn’t have been consulted about that.” He said of the filmmakers,“They worked out ways to destroy me and I’m trying to raise awareness about substance abuse.”
