Story: The second chapter in Renny Harlin’s three-part continuation of
The Strangers franchise is an underwhelming and formulaic entry that adds little to the genre or the series.
Review: Following the traumatic events of the first film, Maya (Madelaine Petsch) wakes up in a hospital in the same remote town after surviving a vicious attack by three masked assailants. But her nightmare is far from over, as the killers return to continue their reign of terror. Bruised and broken, her fight for survival against the relentless masked killers drives the narrative.
While this survival thriller–slasher hybrid does deliver its share of chills, it never rises above mediocrity. The scares are predictable and there’s nothing here that hasn’t been done in countless horror films before. There’s no innovation, no standout moment, and no unique twist to justify its existence.
Not that you'd expect much logic in a slasher, but why would a hospital be so deserted at night? Not a single patient or staff member is seen beyond the lead character—it feels unnaturally empty and blatantly orchestrated.
You don’t need to have seen the first chapter to follow the plot—everything is painfully obvious. And in a year where Hollywood has delivered some genuinely gripping thrillers,
The Strangers – Chapter 2 feels like a forgettable footnote. Even if you're in the mood for a generic slasher, this one’s better saved for a streaming night when nothing else appeals. Wait for it to hit OTT.
