The Academy Awards: Indian version

The Academy Awards are one of the most respected forms of recognition for a film, the world over. Any film that gets nominated for the Oscars can easily be counted as a quality film that delivers on both the content and visual aesthetics. Hence it comes as no surprise that every filmmaker worth his salt wants to earn a nomination at the prestigious awards. While every year, India nominates a film that the appointed panel finds worthy of getting a chance at the awards, there's a lot of disappointment that follows every nomination. In such a scenario, we wonder what would happen if India decides to have its own version of the Oscars. Will it put an end to the incessant debates over who should be nominated or will it only complicate things further? Let's take a look...

Categories: The Academy Awards recognise the best of filmmaking in 25 categories. However, if Oscars were to come to India, we are sure that the categories would have to be increased considerably. It would be a shame if the Oscars were being organised in the country and anyone who is someone in Bollywood don't get their coveted statuette. While the Oscars also have a 'Best film in the foreign language category,' we sure can avoid it. After all, there's plenty of talent right at home to award, ain't it?

Hosts: The hosts at the Academy Awards are always hilarious. They do a fantastic job at keeping the audience engaged and entertained throughout the evening. We think Bollywood celebs will do a fantastic job at keeping the hosting tradition alive. Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra - we think all of them would make for great hosts of the evening.

Performances: Needless to say, the awards night will be peppered with stimulating performances from the young guns of Bollywood. Possibly there would be a theme too which will just jazz up the environment. All the Bollywood naach-gaana will surely take over the prim and proper set up of the Academy Awards and it would be a delight to see the prestigious awards get a little desi makeover.

Red carpet: The Oscar Awards' red carpet is the most talked-about stuff in the fashion circles. Everything - from what celebrities are wearing to what they are not - makes news. It will be interesting to see if Bollywood change their style to match the international standards, or if the Bollywood beauties sashay down the red carpet in the six yards. Either ways, a lot of international designers will enter the scene.

Live show: While the Award ceremonies back home are always recorded and televised after due editing, on a later date, the Oscars are aired live. If we have our own version of the Academy Awards, we too would take it live. This would mean lesser scope for goof-ups on the stage. This would, however also encourage spontaneity. The vibe of a live show is second to none and it would be great to watch the celebs be at their impromptu best during the show.
