Rihanna to Angelina: Hollywood celebs with tattoos

Along with the trend of getting the name of our loved ones inked, the trend of getting it erased in case the things don’t work out is also gaining momentum. While Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone had to edit her RK tattoo post her breakup with Ranbir Kapoor, ‘Maleficent’ actress Angelina Jolie has now decided to eraset her tattoos related to Brad Pitt to get rid of any negativity surrounding her. However, this is not the first time Angelina has to get her tattoos reversed. The mother of six had got the name of her former husband Billy Bob Thornton’s name removed after her split.

Rihanna is a Barbadian singer, actress, songwriter and fashion designer. She loves getting inked. In 2007, she got inked on the right side of her waist, just above the hip bone. The tattoo is a word taken from the Bhagwat Geeta. Her tattoo was supposed to translate to 'forgiveness, honesty, suppression and control,' a quote from the Sanatana Dharma. Unfortunately, the tattoo was misspelled and translated to 'long suffering, truthfulness, self-restraint, inward calm, fear and fearlessness.' In addition to the incorrect translation, her tattoo is also missing the rest of the original prayer, which reads 'pleasure, pain, birth, death.'

Spy Kids actress, Jessica Alba, is quite passionate when it comes to getting inked. She is not only an actress but also a model and a successful businesswoman. She has tattooed the word, ‘Padma’ on her wrist. Padma means the lotus flower. According to Hindu mythology, the lotus is a symbol of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.

Multi-talented Katy Perry has several tattoos on her body. However, she chose to go with a Sanskrit tattoo to express her love for her husband, Russel Brand. The tattoo reads, 'Anuugacchati Pravaha,' which means go with the flow. This tattoo is inscribed close to her heart, on her left hand. It seems like the trend of Sanskrit tattoos is catching on in the West too.

Well known stand-up comedian, Russell Brand, got inked on his wedding day. Just like his wife, Katy Perry, he too got inscribed with the same Sanskrit words. His tattoo also reads, 'Anuugacchati Pravaha,' which means go with the flow. The UK-born star believes in Hinduism and follows the Hindu culture.

Daughter of fashion designer, Lin Milano, Alyssa seems to be passionate about getting inked. She, too, has the word, ‘Om’ inscribed on her left wrist and at the nape of her neck. She is the only Hollywood actress to sport the same tattoo at two places on her body.

Born and brought up in the US, Miley has inscribed the symbol of the Hindu chant, ‘Om’ on her body. Om is a spiritual symbol that refers to the soul. She has inked the word on her right hand’s wrist. She also has a 'Karma' tattoo on her right-hand’s index finger. Reportedly, she has confessed to have felt calmer after getting the tattoo done.

Adam Levine, who was born in Los Angeles, is the lead vocalist of the band, Maroon 5. He has a tattoo on the left side of his chest. The inscription is in Sanskrit and reads, ‘Tapas’ which means meditation. The vocalist seems to have inscribed the word to inspire himself. What’s commendable is the fact that he knows the importance of the word and believes in it.

Maleficent actress, Angelina Jolie, is renowned internationally. She, too, sports a lot of tattoos. In the honor of her first son, Maddox, Angelina got inked with a Sanskrit tattoo.
