He has been previously nominated for Babel in 2006 under the Best Direction and Best Picture categories.

Richard Linklater has been nominated under the Best Direction category in the 87th Academy Awards, for his film, Boyhood. The film is the story of a 12-year old boy, Mason, and charts his journey even as he faces the realities of life. Richard Linklater has also been nominated for Best Picture and Original Screenplay for the film categories. This is his fifth Academy Award nomination.
