When Jean-Luc Godard said: “A story should have a beginning, a middle and an end, but not necessarily in that order,” he hardly meant what the audience experienced while watching Zero Dark Thirty at a PVR multiplex early this week.

And what made matters worse was, with non-linear editing in vogue among contemporary directors, members of the audience hardly realised anything was amiss until the Duty Manager (DM) revealed the goof-up.
The DM walked in with his team during the interval and asked the audience not to leave for refreshments. The doors were locked. And the ambience suddenly became sombre. The audience was left wondering if there was a security breach. But when the DM told them that by mistake, the second half of the film was shown first and apologised on behalf of the Project Team, most dismissed it as some kind of a practical joke.
However, the DM continued and told the patrons they had the option of taking a refund, alternatively his team could play the whole film without a break. But by that time, the reality had sunk in; none were in the mood to watch the film. Most immediately opted for the refund. A source from the multiplex said: "It was not done deliberately."
