Veteran filmmaker Woody Allen has said that he feels sad for Harvey Weinstein and the woman who were subjected to sexual abuse at the hands of the media mogul.

In wake of multiple sexual allegations against the producer,

Allen

said no one opened up about these incidents "with any real seriousness" to him since people were only interested in making their films in the end.

    "The whole Harvey

    Weinstein

thing is very sad for everybody involved. Tragic for the poor women that were involved, sad for Harvey that (his) life is so messed up.

"No one ever came to me or told me horror stories with any real seriousness... And they wouldn't, because you are not interested in it. You are interested in making your movie," Allen told.

The Oscar-winning director said he hopes these allegations will lead to some drastic changes in the film industry but also voiced his concern about

    Hollywood

    slipping into a 'witch-hunt' culture.

"You also don't want it to lead to a witch-hunt atmosphere, a Salem atmosphere, where every guy in an office who winks at a woman is suddenly having to call a lawyer to defend himself. That's not right either."

"But sure, you hope that something like this could be transformed into a benefit for people rather than just a sad or tragic situation," Allen said. The director has been a frequent collaborator with Weinstein throughout their careers, having worked in films such as 'Bullets Over Broadway', 'Everyone Says I Love You', the Academy Award-winning 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona', among others.

Allen, however, was criticised for feeling 'sad for Harvey'. He clarified his stand in a statement and said,"When I said I felt sad for Harvey Weinstein I thought it was clear the meaning was because he is a sad, sick man."

"I was surprised it was treated differently. Lest there be any ambiguity, this statement clarifies my intention and feelings."

Allen's son, Ronan Farrow, broke the story in October, where he reported on the allegations against Weinstein. In 2014, the 'Midnight in Paris' director was publicly accused of molesting his and former wife, Mia Farrow's adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, over 20 years before. Allen has consistently denied the allegation.

    Celebs accused of sexual crimes
Veteran Hindi film actor Jeetendra was accused of sexually assaulting his cousin, who filed a police complaint 47 years after the alleged incident. The victim made the accusation in a police complaint filed with Himachal Pradesh's Director General of Police.
According to the complaint, the incident took place in Shimla in January 1971, when she was 18-year-old and Jeetendra was 28-year-old. The victim alleged, “he (the actor) had arranged with my now-deceased father to have me join him on the sets where his movie was being filmed.”
“Respondent (Kapoor) brought me to his hotel room which contained two separate beds. Tired from the journey I went to sleep in the far bed," said the complaint. She alleged that the actor later joined the bed for a while and "smelled strongly of alcohol.'' After sexually assaulting her, he left her alone, separated the beds and "we slept silently in the room that night," the victim claimed.
Meanwhile, Jeetendra refuted the charges and dubbed them as "baseless", and a "miserable effort by a jealous competitor to disrupt his business activities".
Slamming the charges, Jeetendra's lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee in a statement said, "Foremost my client (Jeetendra) specifically and categorically denies any such incident.” He further claimed that such “baseless, ridiculous and fabricated claims” cannot be entertained by any court of law after a span of almost 50 years.
A young woman working with Phantom Films, of which the founders include Anurag Kashyap, Madhu Mantena, Vikramaditya Motwane, and Vikas Bahl, has accused 'Queen' director Vikas of sexual harassment. The incident, as reported in a leading tabloid, happened a few months ago during a trip to Goa.
The tabloid further reports that after the girl filed a complaint to the other stakeholders - Anurag, Vikramaditya and Madhu, the matter was then escalated to Reliance Entertainment who have a 50-50 percent stake in the joint venture. With all seriousness of the matter, a committee has been set up as per the Vishakha guidelines to hear the complaint. Until the, the filmmaker is ousted from the company he founded with the four others in 2011.
Talking to the tabloid, one of the stakeholders on condition of anonymity, revealed, "We (Reliance Entertainment and Phantom Films) have taken a hard stand, based on what we have heard and investigated." According to him and several others close to the development, Vikas Bahl, who had already stopped attending office, was formally told on March 28 to step down from his position."
The stakeholder further added, "The decision needed to be taken because it was getting too much," said the stakeholder. "There are not one, two or three but multiple victims. I was in the middle of a film shoot when I came to know about the first incident and I had to stop my shoot and come to Mumbai... there is (after all) a young girl on whom an intoxicated Vikas forced himself while they were in Goa. He has behaved badly in the past as well but when this specific complaint came, we needed to act on it."
Contrary to the reports, Vikas, who is currently in Delhi besides his ailing mother, took his stand and said, "Nothing has happened. I am running the company. There is no complaint to HR and there is no Vishakha committee. I have heard about this particular lady you are speaking about and the Goa incident."
