‘Wicked: Part Two’ gets a new title and release date

The highly-anticipated second instalment of 'Wicked' has officially been titled 'Wicked: For Good'. The sequel, which continues the story of the hit first film, is scheduled to hit theatres on November 21, 2025.

The first part of 'Wicked' made a splash at the box office when it premiered on November 22, 2024, and turned out to be a major success, grossing $359 million in the US and over $524 million worldwide. The film has now become the highest-earning Broadway-to-film adaptation at the US box office, surpassing the 1978 classic 'Grease' ($188 million). Globally, it is second only to 'Mamma Mia!' (2008), which earned $611 million.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, the Wicked films are inspired by the beloved Broadway musical of the same name. The story is set before the events of 'The Wizard of Oz' and explores the relationship between two central characters—Glinda the Good Witch, played by Ariana Grande, and Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, portrayed by Cynthia Erivo.

In the first movie, audiences saw Glinda and Elphaba meet at Shiz University, where their rivalry transformed into an unlikely friendship. However, by the end of Part One, Elphaba begins to embrace her magical powers while being labelled as a dangerous enemy by powerful figures like The Wizard (played by Jeff Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh).

The new title, Wicked: For Good, references an emotional song from the musical’s second act, where Glinda and Elphaba reflect on how their friendship has forever changed them. Director Jon M. Chu hinted that the sequel will be even more impactful and timely, saying the story touches on themes of truth, choices, and consequences, making it even more relevant to today’s world.

Alongside Grande and Erivo, the movie will feature returning stars Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, and Jonathan Bailey. Fans can expect a powerful continuation of the tale, blending magic, drama, and heart.
