MufasaThe Lion King (1994)Voiced by: James Earl Jones No Father’s Day list would be complete without a mention of Mufasa. From the word go, we see a wise and just King who dons a powerful, yet pleasant aura. Besides being King, he loves his only cub, Simba. There are warm moments of Mufasa teaching Simba about the circle of life and playing with him under the starlit sky.

But the most heart-wrenching sequence in the film that also scarred many a childhood is perhaps, Mufasa losing his life to keep Simba safe. Even after his death, Mufasa guides and comforts Simba, taking him back to the Pride Lands, his rightful home and kingdom.

MarlinFinding Nemo (2003)Voiced by: Albert Brooks and Jess Harnell There was no clowning around when it came to being dad for this clownfish. After having lost his wife and other children in a barracuda attack, Marlin’s only joy and life is Nemo. Beyond the overtly-protective front was a father who didn’t want to lose his only son. But what we enjoy most as viewers is perhaps seeing Marlin evolving into a wonderful father. When Nemo is captured by a diver, Marlin sets out on an unpredictable journey, venturing into unfamiliar waters, braving sharks and other deep sea creatures in order to get to his son back.

It was only after rescuing the sloth, Sid from two rhinos and finding Roshan, a human baby, whose mother entrusts him in his care before disappearing after an attack by saber-tooth cats, does Manny’s life find purpose again.
