When Jackie Chan spoke about a close call: ‘Am I going to die this time?’
Jackie Chan is not dead. Yet another death hoax, claiming that the actor has passed away, has set the internet ablaze. The 71-year-old actor is very much alive and thriving. He remains active and healthy.
While this is yet another baseless rumour, Jackie Chan has, however, had a close brush with death — a time when he wondered, “Am I going to die this time?”
One of his riskier stunts in recent years was for the 2020 movie Vanguard. The legendary actor got trapped underwater while filming a Jet Ski chase scene. “Wow, this scared me to death,” the actor said in a behind-the-scenes video.
Yes, Jackie Chan too gets scared. He is not immune to fear. But the actor does not let fear control him. During an appearance at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, Jackie Chan said, “I’m no Superman. I am scared. Before a stunt, I go: ‘Am I going to die this time?’”
He continued: “The audience doesn’t know about the rain, the producer, or that the budget was cut. They just want a good movie. I always remember that, so I try to make every scene perfect. I think old movies were better than [what we have] today.”
Talking to USA Today, the film’s director, Stanley Tong, said, “We wanted to show the outtakes to prove that even though Jackie is 66 years old, he’s a professional actor and loves action.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Jackie Chan was most recently seen in Karate Kid: Legends and the 2025 Chinese film The Shadow’s Edge. The superstar has many movies in development, including the rumoured next instalment of the Rush Hour franchise.

The latest hoax
Jackie Chan has become one of the most searched people after a death hoax started to spread on social media.
