West Side Story star Rachel Zegler says she signed up for Shazam because she “needed a job”

At the premier of Shazam: Fury of the Gods, Rachel Zegler was asked a pointed question: What made her step into the world of DC heroes? She was quick to reply: “I…needed a job,” and added, “I am being so serious.”

Ever since, the clip has gone viral on social media with the short video garnering over 200,000 views. Fans have loved the refreshing honesty in her answer, with one applauding her for keeping her answer “relatable”. Yet another fan has commented: “I love celebrities who keep it REAL”.
Rachel, who is of Colombian and American descent, has been singing in musicals and winning awards for her stage roles while still at school. Her big break came when she was chosen by Steven Spielberg for West Side Story from among 30,000 applicants and she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for her role in the film. She was the youngest recipient of the award at age 20.

After that, she worked in Shazam: Fury of the Gods as Anthea. Rachel, in another clip is heard saying that just after West Side Story, the pandemic struck which put an end to work for the time being. She says in the video that she considers herself lucky to have landed this job at DC and adds that she has made some great friends on this job and is excited to see the film.

She will be soon seen in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes which is under production and in the film Snow White which is slated for a 2024 release.
