If Hollywood films followed a 'formula', this would be it. An aspiring 23-year-old DJ, Cole Carter (Zac Efron), comes to LA with a handful of friends and the dream to make it big. The key to him finally finding his feet, by creating that one unique track that makes him go down in musical history as a popular artist, could be James (Wes Bentley), a famous DJ.James becomes his mentor of sorts, but the fact that his prot'g'e eventually falls in love with his own girlfriend leads to complications. Hurdles also arise in the form of professional struggle and personal battles, and how the protagonist overcomes them and holds his own forms the rest of the film, whose only saving grace, perhaps, remains the music. However, full points to Zac Efron for delivering an almost flawless performance, but more importantly, for being versatile, and doing films that don't box him into a stereotype. The DVD comes with the standard features subtitles, scene selection and song selections.
