Tom Hardy: Venom is not black or white, it is grey

The Marvel Universe has brought several legendary superheroes to life, but with '

Venom

', the anticipation is greater. It marks the first and one of the biggest Spider-Man spin-offs. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the movie is touted to offer something bold and fresh, including decapitations, snarling alter-egos and internal struggles.

Tom Hardy, who will essay the fierce, complex and absolutely ruthless titular character, describes Venom as someone with multiple layers. Explaining why he stands out from the rest of the superheroes, the actor says, “It’s a development, a continuous progression of the symbolic heroes that we like. Obviously, there’s a saturation at the moment, in the marketplace. We’re superhero movie-heavy when you look at the big movies nowadays. What was nice about this one is that it straddles the fence between the concept of what is good and bad, and presents a flawed human being host to a flawed superhero. It’s definitely fresh, and that’s what’s exciting, as opposed to turning anything on its head. It’s not black and white, it’s about greys.”
