Tom Cruise was paid this UNBELIEVABLE amount for daring stunt performance at Paris Olympics
Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise put up a jaw-dropping performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics closing ceremony as the flame was handed over to Los Angeles for the next games set to be held in 2028.
In a grand display, Cruise, tapped into his 'Mission: Impossible' role to perform a live-action sequence that thrilled millions worldwide. The actor showed off his daredevil side by leaping off the roof of Stade de France, landing at the base of the stadium, where he was met by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Olympic champion Simone Biles. Cruise then accepted the official Olympic flag and carried it on a motorcycle ride to an airplane parked near the Eiffel Tower. The spectacle continued with a pre-recorded segment showing Cruise skydiving into Los Angeles, landing near the iconic Hollywood sign.
At the time, the internet was buzzing with rumours about the actor's possible multi-million dollar paycheque for lending his star power to the games and pulling off the big stunts. However, weeks later, LA28 chair Casey Wasserman, who played a key role in organising the event, revealed that Cruise’s participation came without a typical Hollywood paycheck.
It was revealed that Cruise and everyone involved, in fact, worked on the production for free.
“The backstory is that we realised we were producing a 15-minute live TV show, and so I hired who I think is the best person in the world to do that,” Wasserman shared via The Hollywood Reporter. He praised Cruise's commitment, recounting how the actor had just finished filming 'Mission: Impossible' in London 6 pm before jetting off to Los Angeles and immediately on arrival at 4am, filmed the skydiving sequence.
It was also revealed that the actor demanded a second take because he wasn't satisfied with the first. He then helicoptered to the Hollywood sign for additional shots before flying back to London.
