Potter fans revisit their childhood with a surprise addition from JK Rowling about the wizard appearing at the Quidditch World Cup finals. Tuesday was a magical day for Potterheads across the muggle world. After years of waiting to hear another story about ‘the boy who lived’ – and writing a ton of fan fiction to fill that void – the fans’ wish was finally granted.
On Pottermore – a website famous for interactively retelling the Harry Potter series – Rowling has been writing as gossip correspondent Rita Skeeter, who’s reporting the ‘ongoing’ Quidditch World Cup. On Tuesday, Rita spotted Harry, and several other characters from the books, at the tournament’s finals, and wrote an article titled Dumbledore’s Army Reunites At Quidditch World Cup Final. Not surprisingly, once the article got released on Pottermore, the website crashed, rabid fans started hyperventilating on Twitter and Facebook, and some proactive journalist immediately asked Daniel Radcliffe if there were any hopes of a return to the film’s franchise (there weren’t, sorry, Potter fans).
ALSO READ: Daniel Radcliffe has no plans to reprise Harry Potter role In the article, which should be taken with a generous pinch of salt since it’s been written by Rita, whose journalistic ethics have always been questionable, Rowling reveals some interesting details. Firstly, the boy wizard’s not a boy anymore. He’s 34! And if that’s not enough to remind the fans who grew up with him that they’re getting older, Rita also noticed “a couple of threads of silver in the famous Auror’s black hair”. Even more worrisome was Harry “sporting a nasty cut over his right cheekbone.” Does it mean tragedy’s about to befall the wizarding world? Or has Ginny cursed Harry? Because, yes, their marriage is in trouble, or at least it seems that way to Rita.
Ron, who’s balding a little, has quit his job at the Ministry of Magic to work with George, while Hermione’s kicking the glass ceiling’s a** in the ministry. Rita also writes about Neville Longbottom, Luna Lovegood and the Weasley family. Oh, and Rita also spots Harry’s godson Teddy Lupin “snogging Victoire”, Bill and Fleur’s daughter.
ALSO READ: Daniel Radcliffe leads Walk of Fame for 2015 This might be the first time Rowling has written anything about Harry, Ron and Hermione since the seventh book came out, but it’s not the first time she’s divulged information about what the trio’s been up to. In February, after she made the much-discussed comment about wishing that Hermione had ended up with Harry, we’d reported that Pamela Ingleton, an academic who has written about Rowling’s habit of revealing more about her stories after their publication, had told an international newspaper that “(Rowling) is still constantly intervening in the process of understanding and reading these characters and these stories… She wants to exert her control. She wants to be the one we depend on for information, so that, readers become reliant on her authority.” Could this be yet another way of doing that, or is there some other motive behind this update? International media is already speculating if this article is, in fact, Rowling’s attack on tabloid journalism, against which she’s spoken publicly on numerous occasions. Sentences like “Does Hermione Granger prove that a witch really can have it all? (No – look at her hair)” are being quoted as proof of this.
Nevertheless, are all your Harry Potter feels back? Are you itching to reread the whole series from start to finish, or have a movie marathon? You’re not alone. We take a look at some fans, who are clutching their hearts and dealing with the dilemma via Twitter.
