Telugu superstar Jr NTR, celebrated for his performance in "RRR," crossed another professional milestone when he was invited to join the Academy's prestigious Actors Branch. This recognition comes in the wake of the success of "RRR" at the international box office and at the Oscars, where the SS Rajamouli directorial won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, "Naatu Naatu".
The Academy, on Thursday, took to its social media handles to make the official announcement listing down the newest members joining the Actors Branch this year. Alongside Jr NTR, the list includes Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Kerry Condon, and Rosa Salazar.
Praising the dedication and talent of these remarkable actors, the Academy penned a note that read, "In the capable hands of these dedicated and gifted performers, stories transcend the confines of imagination, taking on a tangible, visceral existence that captivates viewers around the world. Through their nuanced expressions, compelling gestures, and authentic portrayals, they bridge the gap between fiction and reality, allowing us to see ourselves in the struggles, joys, and triumphs of the characters they bring to life."
Extending a formal welcome to the new talents, the note added, "The Academy is thrilled to welcome Ke Huy Quan, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Kerry Condon, N.T. Rama Rao Jr., and Rosa Salazar to the Actors Branch."
According to the Oscars' official page, membership to the Actors Branch is by invitation of the Board of Governors. Invitations to active membership are limited to those people who are active in the motion picture arts and sciences, or even credited with screen achievements. It also states that those actors who have achieved distinction in the motion picture arts and sciences and who, in the opinion of the Board, are qualified for membership.
The page also lists down three criteria for actors to be considered for invitation to membership in the Actors Branch of the Academy. It lists that the person must 'have a minimum of three theatrical feature film credits, in all of which the roles played were scripted roles, one of which was released in the past five years, and all of which are of a calibre that reflects the high standards of the Academy.'
It also mentions that actors have to be nominated for an Academy Award in one of the acting categories. In Jr NTR's case, as the actor is not an Oscar nominee, he falls under the third category that states, the person must 'have, in the judgment of the Actors Branch Executive Committee,
otherwise achieved unique distinction, earned special merit or made an outstanding contribution as a motion picture actor.'
As soon as word spread, fans of the superstar took to social media to celebrate this latest honour and express their pride and joy. In a couple of tweets, fans shared screenshots of the Academy's announcement and wrote, "Proud of you anna. Sky is the limit for you."
"From thousands of actors and actresses across India, one man, my man, Jr NTR secured a spot. This is great news for me and so many Telugu audience," wrote another in the comments section.

Jr NTR is set to return to the big screen with his next action-packed entertainer "Devara," where he shares the screen with Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. The Koratala Siva directorial is scheduled for release on April 5.
The actor is also gearing up to make his Bollywood debut in the spy film "WAR 2" where he will be seen playing the antagonist opposite Hrithik Roshan. The film, which is the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster "WAR," is being directed by Ayan Mukerji. If rumours are true, fans may just get a peek of his character in the upcoming release of 'Tiger 3'. Rumours are rife that Jr NTR will make a cameo in the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif film that will set the ball rolling for 'WAR 2'.
