Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and other stars surprised fans at San Diego Comic-Con with a screening of their new movie, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ The event took place in Hall H, where Reynolds, Jackman, Emma Corrin, and director Shawn Levy joined Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige for a brief and funny chat before the screening.

Fans were given Wolverine-themed popcorn buckets, hinting at the surprise screening. As Deadline previously reported, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is expected to break records as the first R-rated movie in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is projected to earn between $35 million and $40 million on preview night, surpassing the previous record held by ‘Deadpool 2’ ($18.6 million). The movie is also predicted to have an opening weekend of $160 million to $170 million, with the possibility of reaching $200 million in three days. This would break the R-rated opening record set by the first ‘Deadpool’ movie, which earned $132.4 million.

After the screening, the audience gave the film a standing ovation, applauding the numerous cameos, including appearances by Jennifer Garner, Channing Tatum, Wesley Snipes, Chris Evans, and Dafne Keen. Feige mentioned that fans should watch the San Diego skies for a special drone show later that night.

This surprise screening and the enthusiastic response suggest that Marvel Studios might consider making Comic-Con screenings a new tradition. The successful event has set a festive tone for the weekend and highlighted Comic-Con as a prime location for movie premieres.
