Superhero movies to look forward to in 2023

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to enthral us with the amazing storylines, interwoven characters, mesmerising sounds and addictive special effects. Their main competitors DC are also turning the tide around with new movies featuring new heroes. Here's a powerful list to look forward to this year.

The loss of Gamora has left deep scars in Peter Quill’s psyche. Nevertheless, the team must rally together to defend the universe as well as safeguard one of their own members. The heroic Guardians as we know them may be put to an end if the operation is not entirely successful.

The film will be released on May 5 and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Vin Diesel amongst others.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have created a surprisingly unconventional visual style for this Spider-Man that introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales and the infinite possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask. Spidey is catapulted across the multiverse where he encounters multiple Spider-People to protect its existence. He soon has to re-evaluate what it means to be a hero and protect the people that he loves the most. This film will be released on June 2.

The time travelling Flash must make some key decisions in this film that will alter the very nature of time and have some serious consequences for his family and himself. Flash gets himself trapped in a new reality where General Zod has returned and is threatening annihilation. Batman too makes a surprise appearance at the behest of Flash. The film releases on June 16 and stars Erza Miller, Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton and Sasha Calle.

Jaime Reyes, a Mexican-American teen, receives a formidable suit of blue alien armour after an enigmatic scarab connects to his spine, giving him unforeseen superpowers. Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, the film stars Xolo Mariduena, Bruna Marquezine, Susan Sarandon and George Lopez and releases on August 18.

In this sequel to the 2018 film featuring Jason Momoa, an ancient power is mistakenly unleashed threatening to destroy the world. Aquaman must form an uneasy alliance with an unconventional ally in a bid to save Atlantis and the rest of the planet. The film will release on December 25 and is directed by James Wan.
