Veteran actress Shirley MacLaine is set to receive a lifetime achievement honour at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards.

The 'Steel Magnolias' icon, 82, will be a special guest at the organisation's annual awards dinner on January 14, when she will be presented with the Career Achievement prize, reported Variety.

LAFCA president Claudia Puig said, "We are very excited to be giving the award to someone who has had such an illustrious, versatile acting career, and who has contributed so much to our collective enjoyment of movies."

The Oscar winner added, "I'm thrilled with the honour by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the recognition and the encouragement."

MacLaine joins the likes of Doris Day, Gena Rowlands, and filmmaker Richard Lester among previous LAFCA honourees.

The star has enjoyed a career spanning seven decades, and she is refusing to let her advancing age slow her down.

She will next be seen on the big screen in upcoming comedy drama 'The Last Word,' alongside Amanda Seyfried and Anne Heche, while she is also part of the cast of a live-action version of 'The Little Mermaid', which will be based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale and released next year.
