Shogakukan's Big Comic Original magazine's #15 edition announced on Saturday that the manga writer and illustrator Keiko Nishi will be releasing a new manga series titled Sayonara Gohan, which translates to Goodbye Meal in English, in the magazine's August 5th issue. The comic follows a 70 year old man who lives alone as he reflects on his life and the various meals he got to eat.

Keiko Nishi is a manga artist who has written and published many manga series before. She was born on December 26, 1966, in Ibusuki, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. For some of her manga, she has been assisted by Peppe, also known by his real name Giuseppe Durato, an Italian manga artist who lives in Japan.

In November 2020, Nishi started serializing the Kakko Naki manga in the Zōkan Flowers magazine published by Shogakukan. In December 2022, Shogakukan released a single collected book volume of the manga. In March 2020, Nishi also published a one-shot manga in Zōkan Flowers titled "Kaki no Hanashi," which is also known as The Story of Persimmons. Before the website's closure, JManga released two volumes of Nishi's four-volume series Kyudo Boys, which is about the romantic interactions of a group of high school boys, digitally in English. 2015 saw the live-action film adaptation of Otoko no Isshō, also known as A Man's Lifetime, another manga by Nishi. In addition to that, her manga, Otō-san, Chibi ga Inakunarimashita, translating to Father, Chibi is Gone, was adapted into a live-action film in 2019 in Japan.
