Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin episode 1 has hit the internet! It aired on July 6 11PM Japanese Standard Time, which is 7:30PM Indian Standard Time. Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is an anime adaptation of the Action Roleplaying Game by the same name.
The game was released in 2020, as a sequel to the game Fairy Bloom Freesia. The game follows the story of a harvest goddess called Princess Sakuna. She lives on a summit at the top of the world, born to a war god and a fertility god. However, she lives a lazy life, letting her parents' grain go to waste, and as a consequence, she is banished to a faraway land. Her mission is to explore the Isle of Demons and eliminate all the monsters there while also acting as the caretaker of a group of humans. The gameplay is split between a hack and slash side-scroller platformer, and a farming simulator to grow food for the humans.
Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin will be available to stream on Crunchyroll and will start off with the journey of Sakuna, explaining how she was banished. The series is directed by Masayuki Yoshihara, with Jukki Hanada writing the scripts. The music is composed by Yoshiaki Fujisawa. The anime's opening theme is called “Seisei!” by Ikimono-gakari, while the ending theme will be “Origami” by Little Glee Monster.
