Hollywood star Ryan Gosling has lashd out at members of the film industry, putting the onus of the survival of theatres on the audience. Taking accountability for the promotion of films and survival of movie theatres, the actor's video from a recent screening has gone viral. Gosling reportedly made a surprise appearance at a New York theatre at a screening of his film 'Project Hail Mary'. Using the moment to address ongoing concerns about the future of cinemas, he welcomed the packed audience at the screening, and said, "Six years ago, I got the manuscript. (It's) the most ambitious thing I'll ever make, it seemed impossible. It was too good not to give it a shot. Six years later, we did it."He went on to add, "Here we are, we're all back in theaters."

Pushing back against the notion that moviegoers are responsible for sustaining theatres, he said, "It's not your job to keep them open, it's our job to make things that make it worth you coming out."
