The 30-year-old actor - who is known for sensitive roles in films including 'The Notebook' and 'Blue Valentine' - admits he has learned to love more violent motion pictures thanks to director Nicolas Winding Refn, who he worked with on forthcoming brutal thriller 'Drive'.
He said: "It's funny, the first thing Nic said to be was, 'Violence is an art.'
"At the time, I wasn't really watching a lot of violent films, but I've started now.

Despite a varied career, which has seen him appear on TV show 'The Mickey Mouse Club' and be nominated for two Golden Globes, the Canadian-born star reveals he has not made any specific plans and is more "comfortable" with what he does since turning 30.
He said: "Do I set goals? Not relaly? I think now that I'm 30 I'm more comfortable. Maybe it's because I'm playing characters that are older, so it's easier to find good material. But I also have more control, I think."
