Director duo Anthony Russo and Joe Russo have teased major surprises in their upcoming Marvel blockbuster 'Avengers: Doomsday'. As fans wait patiently for the film's trailer after all the positive reviews from CinemaCon, the directors, through their production company, teased fans about all they can expect to unfold in cinemas when the film releases on December 18, 2026.
Currently deep in post-production work on 'Doomsday', the Russo brothers, in their latest statement, promised a dramatic reinvention of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking about the ambitious new chapter in the MCU, Anthony Russo said via AGBO, "Doomsday is a complete reinvention. It’s another swing. I don’t think the audience is expecting it at all… what happens in the movie, its tone, and its subject matter. It feels like another profound shift for them in that serialised story."
The brothers also drew comparisons between the emotional and ideological conflicts in 'Captain America: Civil War' and the tensions expected to unfold in '
Avengers: Doomsday' between Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom and Steve Rogers.
“Tony Stark and Steve Rogers remain very empathetic and rootable and you’ll see to this day people are divided over who was more relatable in [Civil War],” the filmmakers explained and added, “It’s very much this sort of unresolved aspirations of those characters and flaws of those characters. It continues to unfold as we move into Doomsday.”
With 'Doomsday' now gearing up for its release, the directors are reportedly also working round the clock to begin work on 'Avengers: Secret Wars', which is slated to go on floors this August.
The brothers were also asked about how they balance the immense expectations people have about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Joe told CWRU newsroom, "We have to make a film that we enjoy and that touches on the things that excite us. A lot of times you dig back into the 12-year-old version of yourself to try to understand what the relatable elements of [your favourite movies] were."
Marvel is slated to release 'Doomsday' in theatres on December 18, 2026 and its follow-up, 'Avengers: Secret Wars' will release in cinemas next year, on December 17, 2027.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
