Prince Harry wants to change his surname to Diana's maiden name amid rift with his family; here's what we know

Prince Harry allegedly seeks to change his surname and take his mother, Diana’s, maiden name - Spencer. The British royal member has been rumoured to have an official meeting with his uncle, and Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer.

Prince Harry wants to change the family name

According to the Daily Mail, the duke has thoroughly thought about the decision to ditch his original surname, Mountbatten-Windsor, which is used by his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. In the discussion, Harry understood that changing the surname would bring insurmountable problems.

“They had a very amicable conversation and Spencer advised him against taking such a step,” a friend of Prince Harry said. The decision to change the surname seems like a bold step in expressing the rift with his father, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William.

Mountbatten-Windsor to Spencer...

Mountbatten-Windsor is the surname of the descendants of the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, where Windsor is the name of the royal family, and Mountbatten is of the Duke of Edinburgh. On the official birth certificates, Prince Harry and Meghan’s children are named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor and Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

The royal author Tom Bowen had claimed earlier that Meghan’s real-life object was to be Diana. If the surname had been changed, the 43-year-old’s daughter, who reportedly has met King Charles only once, would have been called Lilibet Diana Spencer,, giving a closer relationship and tribute to the beloved princess.

When Meghan said their surname is 'Sussex'

Previously, the American actress was trolled by netizens when she insisted her surname is Sussex when a guest on her show called her Meghan Markle. “It's so funny you keep saying 'Meghan Markle' – you know I'm Sussex now,” she said to Mindy Kaling.

“I didn't know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go 'This is OUR family name. Our little family name,’” she further added.
