One Piece Luffy's Float to hover in the sky at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Toei Animation has unveiled a sneak peek at the Monkey D. Luffy float, set to make its debut at the 97th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
The official Toei Animation account posted an exclusive behind-the-scenes video of the colossal Luffy balloon hovering in the sky on social media. The footage captures the One Piece float's slow journey across a parking lot, orchestrated by the dedicated Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade team in anticipation of the grand event. The Luffy balloon showcases the Straw Hat Pirates' captain in his charming super-deformed form, complete with an enlarged right arm, hinting at an impending ‘Gum-Gum’ attack.
This isn't the first instance of an anime series gracing the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Toei's Dragon Ball made its debut in 2018, presenting Super Saiyan Blue Goku to promote the 2019 release of ‘Dragon Ball Super: Broly.’ However, One Piece's inclusion in such a prominent American gathering underscores the series' immense international popularity.
While ‘One Piece’ has always enjoyed significant success, the recent live-action adaptation has propelled the franchise to new heights of global accessibility. In contrast to previous live-action American adaptations of anime like ‘Death Note’ or ‘Cowboy Bebop,’ the ‘One Piece’ series received acclaim from fans and critics alike. It also outperformed debut records set by series like ‘Wednesday’ and ‘Stranger Things.’ The streaming service on which the series aired has already renewed it for a second season.
