In the wake of her breast cancer diagnosis, Olivia Munn found unexpected encouragement in Kate Middleton's reflections. Dealing with the harsh side effects of treatment, Munn felt like an island, battling chronic tiredness and discomfort.
Olivia Munn is sharing her journey through her diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. The actress recently spoke about how Kate Middleton, the princess of Wales, who’s also a cancer survivor, indirectly helped her feel that she’s not alone amid her cancer treatment. Munn recently spoke to People about season 2 of her show ‘Your Friends & Neighbors.’ During the conversation, the actress, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2023, said there are several challenges that many cancer survivors face after their initial rounds of treatment.

When Olivia Munn felt she was all alone

Implying that there's so much medication for certain people during the treatment, the actress noted that the drugs took a toll on her body and caused side effects. Munn continued, “I guess I was hard on myself because I would ask other friends who were on the same treatment plan as me if they'd had any of my symptoms, and none of them did. Not one person said that they had exhaustion, mood swings, or body aches. I thought, ‘I'm the only one getting this.’”

However, Munn said that she recently heard the Princess of Wales, 44, a fellow cancer survivor, say something that both helped and resonated with her.
“Kate Middleton had talked about this recently, and she said it so succinctly (and) it really touched me and gave me such a sense of peace, because I finally had words behind it,” Munn said.

“She was like, ‘You think that the big things are the things you have to worry about,' I'm paraphrasing her, ‘But it's the treatment after you've gone through the big things that's really taxing and hard on you.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, somebody else is feeling that.’ " She added, “That's where it feels really good … when you hear other people's experiences, because it is true; you feel so much better when you know you're not alone.”‘Violet’ star Olivia Munn was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer in April 2023. As for her latest work, the actress currently stars with James Marsden, 52, in season 2 of Apple TV’s ‘Your Friends & Neighbors.’
