Netizens are convinced the plot of Barbie and The Wizard of Oz have similarities

The trailer for the Barbie film, due to hit theatres on July 21 this year, has got movie buffs and die-hard fans of the Mattel doll on a speculation spree. They're now posting videos on Tik Tok and on social media analysing the fantasy pink world that has popped up in the trailer.
For one, Barbie, in Greta Gerwig’s film is enacted by Margot Robbie and she has Ryan Gosling as her boyfriend Ken. Barbie whizzes past a theatre in her pink, open sports car and fans have already noticed that the theatre is showing The Wizard of Oz in Barbie’s world.

She drives down a pink road and some Tik Tok users are now posting what they claim are similarities between the world of Barbie and that of The Wizard of Oz and its main character, Dorothy. Both are wearing check frocks, gathered and belted at the waist and both have the same wide-eyed look about them. Dorothy takes a paved yellow road to reach a fantasy world and Barbie is catapulted into the cruel, real world after she and Ryan follow a sign which reads, Real World This Way.

Are there any more similarities in the plot? That we will all have to wait till July 21 to find out when the film hits theatres around the world.
