Money buys me freedom: David Hasselhoff

Money buys me freedom, says Hollywood actor David Hasselhoff in an interview with TOI
Money buys me freedom: David Hasselhoff
Here’s someone who the GenNext relates to for his multifarious stints and his impact on the world of showbiz.
Actor-singer, David Hasselhoff, after various feats in television, reality shows, music and movies is once again trying to woo the audience on the big screen. In an e-mail interview, the actor opens up about movies, fatherhood and more…
At this juncture, where would you like to invest more time — television or movies? I’m actually looking to try to bring back Knight Rider or do some more films for kids.
1x1 polls
I’ve got a film in development called Jungle Brats, which is like Goonies. I’ve got a movie coming out called The Christmas Consultant. I have a lead role in this film.
Which gave you more creative satisfaction? Knight Rider, Baywatch series, musical experimentations or endorsements? You know what it’s about? Money. Freedom. I’m looking for freedom. You know what money buys? Money buys the freedom to say ‘F*** you’ to everybody and have a good time.
You are doing a cameo in your new flick. Why did you choose to do such a role? Bob Weinstein called me and said, ‘Come on, man — if you do this (Piranha 3DD) and it does really well, I’ll put you in Scary Movie, and we own Knight Rider and maybe we can put you in the Knight Rider movie… you’ve got to do this for me.’ I read the script and saw the last Piranha. My dad and I watched it — my dad is 87, and we both looked at each other and said, ‘Well, the movie kind of sucks but the girls are really hot!’ So I said, ‘Why not?’ I just thought it was funny, especially playing David Hasselhoff, but not David Hasselhoff like
Mr Up and Mr Happy. A burned-out David Hasselhoff.
Does the Indian entertainment industry interest you? I met a lot of actors at the Bollywood awards six years ago, but did not know them personally. They were all nice and respectful to me.
Are you an overprotective father? I have my gorgeous daughter sitting in front of me. I’ve got another gorgeous daughter who I’m all ready to kill because she let her handicap parking ticket expire and you know, monster ticket. They’re both in their own band and they’re going to be hitting the ground running...
Do you have to pay the price to be a celebrity while your personal life gets all the attention all the time? To me, it’s like no matter what happens in my life, I know the truth. It’s not what people say about you or think about you, it’s what you think about yourself. And once you realize that life is not fair, and you don’t abuse yourself over it, it’s like, ‘Okay, life’s not fair!’ You get screwed over all the time, and just when you think you’re not going to get screwed over, you get screwed over again! So I just go with the flow.
