Michelle Trachtenberg, best known for her roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, has passed away at the age of 39. The actress, who first gained fame as a child star, was found unresponsive in her New York City apartment.
According to People magazine, the New York Police Department responded to a 911 call at her apartment at around 8 a.m. on February 26. Officers discovered her unconscious and unresponsive. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. Although authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected, an investigation is ongoing.
Born on October 11, 1985, Michelle Trachtenberg started acting at the age of three, appearing in commercials. She got her first major break playing Lily Montgomery in the soap opera All My Children. She later became well-known for her role in Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete.
In 1996, she starred as Harriet in Harriet the Spy, a film adaptation of the beloved children’s book. She then gained a loyal fan base for her role as Dawn Summers in the WB series Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Her career continued with roles in films such as EuroTrip (2004) and Disney’s Ice Princess (2005). In 2008, she played Georgina Sparks, a troublemaker in Gossip Girl, a role she reprised in the show’s 2023 reboot. She also appeared in 17 Again, House, Weeds, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Sleepy Hollow. Additionally, she lent her voice to animated projects like Robot Chicken.
Before her passing, fans had expressed concerns about changes in Trachtenberg’s appearance, with many speculating about her health. In response to the speculation, she addressed the rumors directly on social media. In a post shared last year, she wrote, “This is my face. Not malnutrition, no problems,” dismissing the concerns.
Her final Instagram post, shared a week before her death, was a throwback photo with the caption, “Wanting to look like naughty #T,” leaving fans heartbroken in retrospect.
Michelle Trachtenberg’s passing has left Hollywood and her fans mourning the loss of a talented actress who made a lasting impact on television and film.
