Veteran Hollywood star Michael Caine, whose birth name is Maurice Micklewhite, has finally decided to adopt his movie alias officially to avoid being grilled at airport security.
The actor says he got fed up being forced to stand at airports being checked by security because of the name on his passport.
The star said he was constantly questioned as to why his name was different on his passport to the one he is recognised by worldwide.
To avoid the confusion, the 83-year-old has officially changed his name by deed poll.
"I changed my name when all the stuff started with ISIS and all that. He would say, 'Hi Michael Caine', and suddenly I'd be giving him a passport with a different name on it.
"I could stand there for up to an hour. So I changed my name," he told the Sun.
Caine adopted the alias in 1954 after seeing a poster for the
Humphrey Bogart film 'The Caine Mutiny'.
"One evening my agent said 'I've got you a job, I've got you three days but you can't call yourself Michael White, so give me another name.
"I was in a telephone booth in Leicester Square and I was opposite the Odeon and I looked up, and my favourite actor is Humphrey Bogart, and there it was.
