Fox Star Studios’ 3D animation comedy-adventure film, “Rio”, is riding high with rave reviews from critics and audiencesThe film has garnered the No. 1 opening of all time in India for any animation film.
Jesse Eisenberg, the acclaimed actor of “Social Network”, who lent his voice for Blu, talks about his character in “Rio” and why the film is a must watch!
Can you share the basic premise of this film for people who haven’t yet seen it? Rio is about a Blue Spelt’s Macaw named Blu, who lives in a sheltered town in Minnesota with his owner Linda.
They have an isolated relationship from the rest of the world. Then it is discovered that Blu is the last male of his kind and is taken to Rio to mate with the last female of his kind — Jewel! Once in Rio, Jewel and Blu get kidnapped and a chase begins through Rio, which culminates in a carnival.
Do you share any similarities with Blu?I really loved Blu’s eagerness to learn and the fact that he has such an open mind, but he is also cautious at the same time. I could relate to the character since I love travelling myself and exploring new places, and cultures. But I am also cautious about the people I deal with just like Blu.
How different is Blu from Jewel? Jewel is free spirited, outspoken, brave and heroic. Blu sees everything that he isn’t, in her.
A very strong point of the film is the music...The music is really integrated into the movie. It’s not just the background soundtrack but has captured the spirit of the movie extremely well.
What excited you about doing the film?It sounded like such a fun experience. And Blu seemed so human — he’s got so much going on, all the emotions inside him. He’s the sweetest young man I’ve ever met!
In the film, Blu has a fear of flying. What would you say is your biggest fear? My fear is that I don’t know how to swim – I love water, but I cannot swim!
