Marvel's Clever tactics to keep ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ cameos a secret

Marvel's team behind ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ went to great lengths to protect the film’s surprise cameos. To keep fans guessing, they intentionally spread fake leaks and misinformation. Executive producer Wendy Jacobson shared with GamesRadar+ that they used various tactics, both online and in-person, to maintain the secrecy of the film's cameos. She emphasized that any characters appearing in the movie have significant roles and are not just gimmicks. Each cameo has a purpose and fits into the story with a proper character arc.

Director Shawn Levy confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the movie includes numerous cameos. However, he clarified that these appearances are not the main focus of the film. The cameos are integrated throughout the movie but are not the central element of the story. Levy noted that some online rumors about the film's characters are true, while others are completely off-base.

One persistent rumor involves Taylor Swift potentially appearing as Lady Deadpool or the mutant Dazzler. Despite the speculation, the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ team has consistently denied this. Ryan Reynolds, a close friend of Swift, also dismissed the rumor, stating that she is not in the film.

The marketing for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ has already confirmed several characters from the comics, including Lady Deadpool (though the actor is not yet revealed), Pyro (played by Aaron Stanford), X-23 (played by Dafne Keen), and Sabretooth (played by Tyler Mane). Stanford expressed his excitement about returning as Pyro after 18 years, especially since he finally got to wear a comic-accurate costume. He shared that his previous appearances in the ‘X-Men’ films left him wanting a proper superhero suit, which he finally gets in this movie.

Keen, who plays X-23, mentioned rewatching 'Logan' to prepare for her role in 'Deadpool & Wolverine.' She felt a strong sense of continuity when reuniting with Hugh Jackman on set, despite the eight years that had passed since they last worked together.

'Deadpool & Wolverine' is set to hit theaters on July 26, promising fans a mix of familiar faces and exciting new surprises in the Marvel universe.
