Johnny Depp is getting luckier by the day. After his film Jeanne Du Barry flagged off the recently concluded 2023 Cannes Film Festival and received a seven minute long standing ovation, it is now all set to be released in the US as well.
The film, which opened at the French box office on the same day as it debuted at Cannes, picked up a cool $2.56 million in its first week in France. No release date has yet been set for the US release.

‘Vertical’ has acquired its distribution rights for North America. During the press conference at Cannes just after the film’s release, Johnny Depp had said that it was very “brave of Maiwenn” to choose a “Hillybilly from Kentucky” for the royal role of King Louis XV, who is depicted in the film, Jeanne Du Barry. Moreover, he had to deliver his lines in French and he asked Maiwenn, “Maybe you want to try a French guy as King Louis XV?”

Depp recalled that she immediately replied and said that she had thought about it, but added firmly, “I want you to do it!” Fans are now eager for the release of the film in North America. They will be seeing Johnny Depp back on the big screen after a hiatus of three years.
