Jimmy Kimmel on his comments about Charlie Kirk: Says he was ‘maliciously mischaracterized’
On September 15, following the demise of Charlie Kirk, Jimmy Kimmel made some comments about the matter on his show. Not only that, but he had also criticized the US President Donald Trump as well, playing a video of him reacting to being asked about Kirk’s shooting. After his show’s suspension and reinstatement, Kimmel recently talked about what happened. He shared that, at the time, his comments about the matter were “misunderstood.”
Read on to know what else the TV show host had to say about the matter.
On October 8, the TV show host took to the Bloomberg Screentime conference and shared his thoughts on what happened earlier last month. After his comments about the politician went viral, he started facing a lot of criticism and backlash. This, days later resulted in a week-long suspension of the show. After people rallied for ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ to be brought back on air, the network announced that it will be reinstated.
On Wednesday, Kimmel shared that his comments were taken out of context, and “misunderstood.” He also added that his words were "intentionally and maliciously mischaracterized" by people as well.
"I didn't think there was a big problem, I just saw it as distortion on the part of some of the right-wing media networks, and I aimed to correct it,” Kimmel commented. At the time time he revealed that he was presented with a “list of demands” that he had to comply with, which he did not wish to. This resulted in the suspension amongst other things as well.
The host also added that at the time, he simply wanted to express what he was feeling in the moment and that the comments were "something that really had to come from inside me, and had to be truthful and I had to lay it all out there and be honest with what I was feeling."
He returned with a new episode on Septmeber 23, and scored the highest rated viewer turnout across the nation. During the show he addressed the situation, and wittingly made fun of being more famous than US President Donald Trump. He also shared that it was never his intention to downgrade or make fun of the situation and how Charlie Kirk passed away.
