The funeral of British reality television star Jade Goody, who lost her very public battle with cervical cancer at the age of 27, will take place on April 4, a family spokesman said. Jade, who died on Sunday, will be buried following a service at a church near her home in Essex, southeast England. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown had led the tributes to the former dental nurse who struck a chord with the British public after appearing on the Big Brother TV show in 2002.
Her mother, Jackiey Budden, said her daughter would have been "overwhelmed" by the public's reaction after hundreds of well-wishers continued to lay flowers outside Jade's home. "Her response to all this would be the same as mine - overwhelmed," said Budden. "It just shows how many people really did love her."
Jade's widower Jack Tweed, 21, who she married just days before her death, could be forced to miss the funeral because he is due to be sentenced after being convicted of assaulting a taxi driver. Magistrates warned earlier this month that Tweed, who had denied the offence, could be jailed. The court said the case remained listed for that date, although Tweed's legal team could ask for a delay. Jade's career came close to ruin when she subjected Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty to racist bullying on a celebrity edition of Big Brother in 2007. But the two later made peace and Shilpa said she was "deeply saddened" by Jade's death but "glad she is out of pain".
