Harry Potter grows up sleeping in a cupboard under the stairs, unwanted and overlooked, until Hagrid arrives on his 11th birthday with a letter and a truth that changes everything. He's a wizard, his parents were murdered by Voldemort, and he somehow survived it all with just a scar. At Hogwarts, the school of magic, he finds his first real home, gets sorted into Gryffindor, befriends Ron and Hermione, and discovers a natural talent for Quidditch. But the year's real threat is closer than anyone suspects. The Sorcerer's Stone, capable of granting immortality, is hidden in the school, and someone wants it. Harry assumes it's the cold and hostile Professor Snape. It's actually the timid Professor Quirrell, with Voldemort hiding on the back of his head. Harry defeats him through his mother's sacrificial magic, a protection built from love that Voldemort, then and always, could never understand.

Harry's second year gets engulfed in mystry when students turn to stone. A hidden chamber beneath the school, sealed centuries ago by founder Salazar Slytherin, reopens. Suspicion falls on Harry when his ability to speak Parseltongue, the language of snakes, is revealed. The true culprit is Tom Riddle, a memory preserved in a magical diary, of the boy who once attended Hogwarts. Riddle's name rearranges to spell "I AM LORD VOLDEMORT." He is Voldemort's younger self. Harry destroys the diary, kills the basilisk (the creature killing and immobilizing students), and saves Ron's sister Ginny, unknowingly destroying the first Horcrux.

Sirius Black, imprisoned for murder, escapes from Azkaban prison. Everyone assumes he's hunting Harry, but the truth is more complex. Sirius was Harry's father, James's best friend, and his rightful guardian. The actual betrayer was Peter Pettigrew, who faked his own demise and spent twelve years disguised as Ron's pet rat. Though Harry briefly gains a godfather and the promise of family, Pettigrew escapes, and Sirius is recaptured, fleeing on a hippogriff. Harry experiences his first taste of genuine family connection, only to lose it again.

The prestigious Triwizard Tournament brings three wizarding schools to Hogwarts. Harry's name inexplicably emerges from the Goblet of Fire, binding him to compete despite never entering. The tournament's three deadly tasks push Harry to his limits. In the final task, Harry and fellow champion Cedric Diggory reach the cup together, which is actually a portkey to a graveyard. Cedric is murdered immediately. Peter Pettigrew uses Harry's blood in a dark ritual to resurrect Voldemort with a physical body for the first time in thirteen years. Harry barely escapes when his wand and Voldemort's create a magical stalemate. Harry faces a Ministry trial for using magic around Muggles but is acquitted. At Hogwarts, Dolores Umbridge, the new Defense Art's teacher, refuses to teach real magic and tightens control over the school. Harry discovers Dumbledore leads a secret resistance group, the Order of the Phoenix. Growing frustrated with Umbridge's restrictions, Harry forms Dumbledore's Army to train students in actual defense magic, finding unexpected allies in Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood. A vision leads Harry to the Department of Mysteries, where Death Eaters ambush him and his friends. The Order arrives to help, but not before Sirius falls to his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange. Dumbledore reveals a prophecy made before Harry's birth: a boy born at the month's end, marked by Voldemort, destined so that neither can live while the other survives. That boy is Harry

Dumbledore begins private lessons with Harry, exploring memories of young Tom Riddle to understand Voldemort's immortality. They learn the truth: Voldemort created Horcruxes—seven pieces of his soul hidden in objects. Two have been destroyed already. Dumbledore retrieves Slytherin's ring from a cave but is fatally weakened by a curse. Draco Malfoy and Eaters infiltrate Hogwarts. Though ordered to kill Dumbledore, Malfoy hesitates. Snape kills him instead and escapes. The retrieved Horcrux is revealed to be a fake; someone using the initials R.A.B. found it first.

With Dumbledore gone and Voldemort ascendant, Harry, Ron, and Hermione abandon Hogwarts to hunt Horcruxes. They spend months as fugitives, with the locket Horcrux they carry poisoning their friendship. Ron leaves temporarily but returns and destroys the locket. They discover the legend of the Deathly Hallows—three legendary objects: the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone, and Invisibility Cloak—said to make one master of fate. Captured at Malfoy Manor, they're rescued by Dobby, the house-elf, who sacrifices himself protecting them. Voldemort retrieves the Elder Wand from Dumbledore's tomb, growing even more powerful.

Harry and friends break into Gringotts with goblin assistance, stealing Hufflepuff's cup Horcrux. They discover Nagini, Voldemort's serpent, is also a Horcrux, and the final Horcruxes remain at Hogwarts. As the Battle of Hogwarts erupts, Harry destroys Ravenclaw's diadem while Ron and Hermione destroy the cup. Fred Weasley, Lupin, and Tonks are among those lost in the battle. Dying, Snape reveals his true self: a Dumbledore agent who loved Harry's mother Lily his entire life. Harry learns he's accidentally a Horcrux he must sacrifice himself to defeat Voldemort completely. Walking to his end, Harry survives through the Hallows' power. In the final confrontation, Voldemort's curse rebounds once more. Neville destroys Nagini, and Voldemort is vanquished forever. Nineteen years later, Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione send their children to Hogwarts from Platform 9¾. The lightning bolt scar has not hurt in years.
