Halle Bailey excels in Disney’s trailer of The Little Mermaid with her powerful singing voice

The Disney trailer for The Little Mermaid has been making waves ever since it was aired as a teaser earlier a few months ago showing Halle Bailey as the mermaid with her powerful singing voice. Now, the official trailer has aired along with the release date of May 26 for this Disney remake of the 1989 animated classic.

Halle Bailey plays Ariel, the inquisitive mermaid who is curious to find out more about humans, more so after she saves Prince Eric from drowning. The choice of a black actor, Halle Bailey as Ariel upset viewers when the teaser unveiled, but also enthralled a whole lot of others, especially young black girls who were thrilled to discover that Ariel would be played by a coloured actor. At that time, several hashtags had trended: some with #NotMyAriel and others with #RepresentationMatters and also, #BlackgirlMagic.
Rob Marshall who has directed the film seems to have made the perfect choice in choosing Halle Bailey as the actor who plays Ariel. Her acting credits include Grown-ish, A Wrinkle in Time and Last Holiday. The film's trailer seems to be equally captivating showing a fascinating sea world. The prince is played by Jonah Hauer-King and Melissa McCarthy stars as the evil sea witch Ursula. Javier Bardem plays the role of King Triton.

The film will feature the classics made popular by the 1989 film, besides four original songs.
