The Guilty Gear franchise started in 1998, with the 2D fighting game by the same name. It is a series of fighting games, with many sequels and a manga adaptation. In a world where technology has been replaced by magic, a race of magic-infused creatures by the name of Gears have to fight each other to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. The story centers on Sol Badguy, a bounty hunter who feels guilty for his actions and accidentally turns into a Gear. He decides to repent for his mistakes by fighting other Gears while hiding his identity, as well as often getting into fights with his rival, Ky Kiske.

The anime is set to release sometime in 2025, although no release date has been announced yet. The series will focus on Sol, as well as Sin Kiske, Ky's child. The main villain of the series will be Unika, a girl who holds a grudge against Gears and wants to destroy them all.

Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers will be directed by Shigeru Morikawa. Seiji Mizushima, who has previously worked on anime like Fullmetal Alchemist, will be serving as the associate producer. Norimitsu Kaihō, known for his work on Solo Leveling and other entries in the Guilty Gear franchise, will be in charge of the scripts, and Daisuke Ishiwatari will be designing the characters. The main cast of characters include Joji Nakata as Sol, Issei Miyazaki as Sin, and Yui Ishikawa as Unika. Tomokazu Sugita will be playing the narrator.
