Golden Globe winner Sally Kirkland passes away at 84
Veteran actress Sally Kirkland, beloved for her Oscar-nominated turn in Anna, has passed away at the age of 84. The acclaimed performer died in hospice care in Palm Springs after a year-long battle with dementia and related health complications, her representative Michael Greene confirmed.
Her breakout role came in Anna (1987), where she played a fading Czech actress rebuilding her life in America. The performance earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
Across a prolific six-decade career, Kirkland appeared in more than 250 film and television projects, including JFK, Bruce Almighty, and popular TV shows such as Charlie’s Angels.
In her later years, Kirkland faced financial and health challenges. She lost much of her savings during the 2007 recession, experienced changes to her insurance coverage, and struggled with chronic injuries. Despite these hardships, her enduring passion for art and her spiritual resilience continued to inspire fans and peers alike.
