The American Film Institute (AFI) board of trustees announced the actor will be the 46th recipient of the award. Clooney will receive the recognition at a gala tribute, which will take place on June 7.

, chairman of the AFI board of trustees, praised the 56-year-old actor "America's leading man" and said that he is an epitome of past and present. "Director, producer, writer and actor a modern-day screen icon who combines the glamour of a time gone by with a ferocious passion for ensuring art's impact echoes beyond the screen," he said.

Besides Clooney, artistes such as Diane Keaton, John Williams, Steve Martin, Jane Fonda, Mel Brooks, Shirley MacLaine, Morgan Freeman and Mike Nichols have also received AFI Life Achievement award in the past.

Bachchan bolsters his earnings as the longstanding host of "Kaun Banega Crorepati".The show recorded an average weekly viewership of 5.2 million in its 8th season, which aired in 2014, said Forbes.

Salman Khan, one of India's biggest star, tied with Bachchan with $ 33.5 million. Despite a career trailed by controversies, including conviction for poaching of a blackbuck and a hit-and-run car incident which killed a homeless man.His Being Human clothing line clocked USD 30 million in 2014 revenue, with proceeds going to his foundation.

Akshay Kumar, one of "Bollywood's busiest leading men", ranks ninth on the list with $ 32.5 million.

Hollywood legend Johnny Depp ranks 12th on the list with $32.5 million in annual earnings.

Daniel Craig ranks 15 on the "highest-paid actors in the World" list with $27 million in annual earnings.

Matthew McConaughey ranks 17th on the "highest-paid in the World" list with $26.5 million in annual earnings.
