On May 25, Wactor was walking to his car after finishing his shift as a bartender when he encountered three armed car thieves trying to steal his catalytic converter.The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner determined that Wactor died from a gunshot wound to the chest, classifying his death as a homicide. Johnny's brother, Grant Wactor, expressed his sorrow, stating, "He was a good person. He was taken way too early, and no one should be taken like this at all. He touched a lot of people.
