The superhero film is the latest Hollywood franchise to be postponed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic that has claimed the lives of over 15,000 and infected many others.

‘WW 1984’ that was initially scheduled to release on June 5, has now reportedly been postponed to August 14.

"In these dark and scary times, I am looking forward to a brighter future ahead. Where we can share the power of cinema together again. Excited to redate our WW84 film to August 14, 2020. I hope everyone is safe. Sending my love to you all," Gal said in a statement released on social media along with a stunning motion poster.

This announcement comes just over a week after Marvel Studios announced their decision to postpone Scarlett Johansson’s ‘Black Widow’ that was set for a May 1 release.

According to reports, the delays were inevitable as multiplexes across the US will remain closed to help halt the spread of the novel virus. Warner Bros who is backing the film reportedly picked an August release as they felt it would be realistic for theatres to be up and running by then.

Hollywood continues to grapple with the coronavirus crisis and its impact on the entertainment business which has prompted studios to postpone major releases. Till date, films including ‘In the Heights’, ‘Scoob’, ‘Malignant’, Disney’s ‘Black Widow’ and ‘Mulan’, Universal’s ‘Fast & Furious’ entry ‘Fast 9’, the 25th James Bond film ‘No Time To Die’ and ‘A Quiet Place’ sequel have been postponed.

‘Wonder Woman 1984’ is a sequel to 2017’s ‘Wonder Woman’, DC’s first standalone female superhero film. Directed by Patty Jenkins, it follows Gal Gadot’s Amazonian warrior demi-god as she battles two formidable foes — Maxwell Lord played by Pedro Pascal and Cheetah essayed by Kristen Wiig — while reuniting with her past love, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine). The cast also includes Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen.
