Michelle Monaghan: Yeah, I’m very excited and pumped at the opportunity to work with Robert again. I had such an amazing experience on ‘Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang’ and, obviously, I’m a huge fan of Todd. And Zach’s all right too. So, I was very excited.
Todd Phillips: While it is a road movie and a comedy at itscore, it’s a movie about Zach’s character, Ethan, who’s goingthrough a trauma, having just lost his father, and Robert’s character,Peter, who’s about to become the father for a first time. And about whyRobert needed to travel with this kind of man-child who was going throughtraumatic experience but is a purely loving creature, much like a child who justneeds some adjustments.
Todd Phillips: I thinkit’s just an interesting take on it. I started making movies about collegekids. I grow with my movies and they’re always about my age range.
Robert Downey Jr: It was an invitation to meto get in touch with everything that annoys me and all the fear I have. We hadsuch a great group of people, and the whole experience was funny, because thisis a two-dimensional commercialcomedy.
Zach Galifianakis: I think Robertand I formed a very antagonistic but fun relationship.
He’s really veryfunny, and he makes fun of people a lot. And for some reason I like to be madefun of (laughs).
Zach Galifianakis: It wasfun. To make people emotional watching a scene and then make them laugh prior tothat is tough, and I think Todd got it right.
Todd Phillips: I don’tknow if Robert leaves his comfort zone, because I think Robert’s capableof anything, as an actor. And I think even Zach has so much that wehaven’t even seen yet. I think what Zach just touched on is the key to‘Due Date’, which is that the movie takes these tonal shifts that Idon’t think you see in a ton of comedies, which for me was the fun part ofmaking it.
