Disney has officially let down its hair again. The studio has confirmed the final cast and key plans for the live-action remake of ‘Tangled’, ending months of quiet auditions and online chatter. The update puts two new faces in the lead roles and signals a fresh musical approach. With filming plans set and creative leads in place, Disney is positioning the film as one of its most-watched remakes yet.
Disney’s ‘Tangled’ finds its new leads
According to Disney, the studio has locked its lead cast after an extensive international search. Teagon Croft will play 'Rapunzel,' described as the curious princess with magical golden hair. The 21-year-old actor is known for playing Raven in ‘Titans’ and starring in ‘True Spirit’ on Netflix. Milo Manheim has been cast as 'Flynn Rider,' the charming thief who helps ‘Rapunzel’ escape the tower. He is best known for Disney’s ‘Zombies’ films.
The report further stated that the final screen test took place in London in December 2025, prior to the studio’s decision. Disney said the process reflected its focus on honoring the story and characters that audiences know. In the 2010 animated film ‘Tangled’, Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi voiced the leads. That film helped turn the princess into a modern Disney icon and grossed more than USD 590 million worldwide.
Creative team, story, and release plans
Disney also confirmed key creative roles. Michael Gracey will direct the live-action ‘Tangled’. He is known for ‘The Greatest Showman’, which points to a strong musical focus. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson wrote the screenplay. Kristin will produce the film, and Lucy Kitada will serve as executive producer, according to Disney.
Production is expected to begin in mid-2026, with filming planned mainly in the United Kingdom. The studio plans to use historic sites and natural settings to recreate the Kingdom of Corona. Disney has not announced a release date, but industry expectations point to 2027.
‘Tangled’ later grew into a hit Disney Channel series. Some of Disney’s recent live-action remakes have split audiences, so this one has a lot to prove. Fans want the new film to keep what they loved about the original while bringing something fresh to the screen. Disney still has not announced who will play Mother Gothel. Disney has clarified that Scarlett Johansson, once rumored for the role, is no longer related to the role.
