Denzel Washington receives birthday wishes from younger co-stars, Ethan Hawke and Viola Davis

Yesterday was Denzel Washington’s birthday. Ethan Hawke, his co-star from Training Day, the 2001 mercurial police and narco-gangster action film, captioned a post saying, “Goes without saying that this was one of the best times I had making a movie. Thanks for all your wisdom and happy birthday Denzel.”

Fans instantly reacted with comments like, “One of the best movies ever. You two were at the top of the game.” Another wrote, “I have probably seen it 20 times…never gets old. You guys were great together.”

The film won Denzel Washington the Best Actor Academy Award in 2002, while Ethan Hawke was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. They got together again in 2016 for another film titled, The Magnificent Seven, once again helmed by Training Day director, Antoine Fuqua.

Denzel Washington turned 68 yesterday and is 16 years older than Ethan Hawke, who benefited immensely from his guidance in Training Day and The Magnificent Seven. Several other wishes came Denzel’s way, too.

American actress, Viola Davis, who has worked with Washington in several films also posted birthday wishes on Instagram. She wrote, “Happiest of birthdays Denzel! God continues to bless you in every way and ALL ways!” She also commented on his commitment to young talent and on his wisdom continuing to inspire a generation.
