Decoding the ending of 'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' as Arthur Curry's DC extended universe journey concludes
After a formidable journey with the Justice League and a solo blockbuster, Aquaman's cinematic odyssey in the DC Extended Universe reaches its conclusion with ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’. Released in theatres this weekend, the film takes Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) and his cohorts on an unforeseen adventure, marking the end of an era.
As the narrative unfolds, Arthur and his reluctant ally, his brother Orm (Patrick Wilson), embark on a mission to confront the vengeful David Hyde, aka Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), driven by the corrupted power of the Black Trident.
Manta's sinister plot involves the theft of Orichalcum from the seven kingdoms, intending to use it to pollute the Earth, melt the ice caps, and unleash the ancient force, Kordax (Pilou Asbæk), the original owner of the Black Trident. The stakes escalate when Manta kidnaps Arthur's infant son, Arthur Jr., as part of a ritual requiring the blood of someone in Atlan's bloodline to open Kordax's tomb. The climax unfolds in a perilous confrontation at the melting ice caps, complicated by Orm's unexpected corruption by the Black Trident.
In a dramatic turn, Arthur persuades Orm to resist the dark influence, using his trident to obliterate the Black Trident before it reaches Kordax. The frozen army dissipates, and as the ice cap prison crumbles, Arthur attempts to save Manta, who chooses to disappear amidst the chaos. With the dust settling, Arthur convinces Orm to fake his death and explore the surface world, while he returns to a contented family life.
In a surprising twist, Arthur decides to unveil Atlantis to the surface world, aiming to leverage their resources to combat the global warming caused by the Orichalcum. Holding a public press conference, Arthur reveals Atlantis and proudly declares himself as Aquaman.
‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ continues to explore Arthur's adventures as an ancient power is unleashed, forcing him into an uneasy alliance to safeguard Atlantis and the world from irreversible devastation. The film, directed by James Wan and featuring a stellar cast including Momoa, Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and others, promises a thrilling and visually stunning conclusion to Aquaman's chapter in the DC Extended Universe.
